Hello Job Seekers

Would you please take a bow for all the hard work you have put into your job search while taking a personality test to determine your next career move? I know you are tired from creating or updating your resume, reading job descriptions, researching companies, filling out lengthy job applications, and constantly checking your e-mail to see if you receive a reply. Then, at last, you received a request for an interview. You quickly replied with your dates of availability. Now, today is your big day, and in a few hours, the phone interview will begin. You are nervous, scared, and suddenly you hear a voice on the other side say, “Tell me a little bit about yourself.” You have been preparing day and night for this; however, your voice begins to shake, you ramble on for a few seconds, but then catch yourself, and the interviewer moves on to the next question. Questions after question, you remain calm, and you answer to the best of your ability.

You are a Rockstar; the interviewer mentions the next steps of the interviewing process, and the anxious process starts again. You constantly check your e-mail for the follow-up interview. At this point, the anticipation is building, but so is the doubt, and you begin to feel like they have selected another candidate to move on the round two. After staring at the computer screen for a few minutes, you come to grips with the reality that another candidate has been chosen. You open another browser and log onto your favorite job platform, and start the process all over again. At this point, you have been unemployed for three weeks, and anxiety has slowly started to creep in. You begin to contemplate accepting any job offer just to prevent employment gaps on your resume.

Take a bow and rest; you have done all that you can do. You are a fantastic person with great charisma. Above all, you did your part by applying to your dream job, you showed up to the interview and let your personality shine, and you were looking forward to being part of the team. I give you a round of applause for being relentless, resourceful, and patient.

The reality is looking for a job has its rhythm and challenges. When looking for a job or your next career move, the first thing you need to do is a clean sweep of any binding feelings that tied you to your former employment, such as the people that you worked with, the job title, your wage, and any negative sentiment. As you move forward in your job search, be clear about your goals, celebrate your achievements, and lead intentionally.
